Porterbrook Distance Learning helps Christians learn how to serve Jesus and his people better — whether they are church leaders, church planters, or simply Christians wanting to become more mission-focused. The curriculum requires about five hours a week, but seeks to be integrated with your whole Christian life in whatever context you’re serving. It’s not theology for theology’s sake: the course is written by practitioners for practitioners. It is delivered through distance learning materials and three weekend residentials each year. Each term students are expected to do either a short written assignment or presentation that applies the material to their church and life context.
Is Porterbrook Distance Learning for you?
-You’re an enthusiastic Christian wanting to be equipped for gospel ministry √
-You can commit five hours a week to study √
-You can study on your own √
-For UK only, you can come to Sheffield for three weekends each year √
The range of people we have on the course includes:
For the UK, the course will consist of an introductory Saturday on September 26th 2009 and the following residential weekends, running from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon:
December 4th-6th 2009
March 26th-28th 2010
June 25th-27th 2010
We will introduce the modules for the term at the introduction day and residentials as well as handing out disks of the material. There will be assignments for each module, either in the form of a short presentation at the residential or notes for discussion at the residential. The aim is to help students keep on track and apply their learning to their context. The workload will be spread out throughout the term, though. The course will require about 5 hours study each week. The full course is over two years, comprising a foundation year and advanced year. Students can join either year or both years depending on their needs and circumstances. The advanced year is for people who have had some previous theological training or experience of church leadership or completed the foundation year.
We require each student to have the support of their local church, and where possible, would look for some level of involvement from the church leader(s).
The cost will be £500 per annum, which includes course materials plus accommodation and food for the residentials.
